Color Blocking a la Pretty Shiny Sparkly

I adore color blocking. Adore it. But somehow I've never gotten around to seriously trying it until I got a nudge from Kristina at Pretty Shiny Sparkly and her "Bloggers Do It Better" project. These bright colors are perfect for this time of year as everyone north of the Mason Dixon line starts to seriously crave some spring weather and bright colors. Especially considering that we got snow *coughCOUGH* this morning... never mind that we're more than half way through April..

I finally gave up against the wind, and just tied my hair back...
I'm not sure if I think the black and white skirt defeats the whole "block" part of color blocking, but I like that I can mix it with any color under the sun. Plus, it was probably the last time I could wear these tights until the fall, and who doesn't love cobalt blue tights?

I also had to try out my new, fuchsia, Revlon lipstick. Nothing says "*$%#@ you snow!" like fuchsia lipstick... right?

That's a pretty sweet finial right there.

The Traveling Journal Visits Chicago

We're throwing a little art into the mix this time around, as I'd like to share the wonderful project started by Ally of The Vintage Valley, called The Traveling Journal. I pretty much jumped on this as soon as I saw her post about it, I think its a fantastic idea! The journal is meant to be filled with all manner of art by the everyone it is handed off to, and then that person sends it along to the next!

The Journal started in Perth, Australia, made its way over the west coast of the U.S., and then found its way to my house right outside Chicago. I had hoped to do something Chicago-related to fill my three alloted pages, but my creative juices weren't feeling that vibe when I sat down to sketch out my pages. Instead I painted whatever decided to come out of me.

(Also, please excuse the quality of these photos...I had wanted to photograph them in natural light, but ran out of time and had to run to the post office before it closed. I had to use my photos from the night before.)

Awkward and Awesome Thursday!

Awkward
-How frequently (very frequently) I casually stroll by the front desk and slip my hand into the candy dish for some chocolate. It's embarrassing, really.

Let's get fancy

I promised myself some fancy to make up for the fact that I failed my 30 for 30 challenge, and so I give you fancy. This is the most "grown up" dress I own, and I love it to pieces. Although, it's a bit hard to walk in...I have to take those little bird steps you take when you wear a tight pencil skirt.

Dress: Carlisle
Sunglasses: Fossil
Coat: J. Crew
Tights: Hue
Boots: Sudini
Bag: Elliot Lucca

My favorite fancy coat with my favorite fancy boots and fabulous new sunglasses make this outfit... pretty fancy. Plus, I got a ton of compliments in the office when I wore it. That's a nice confidence booster right there. :)

And as an added bonus, you guys get to see my front walk way! Awesome.
