30 for 30 Day 21: Proper and Prim

I call this my "Professional Look."

So part of starting this blog and stalking other bloggers like a troll is so that I can force myself out of my comfort zone. I want to try new styles, looks and maybe throw in a dash of crazy. Er, maybe "daring" is a better least for the office.

Anyway, when important VIP-type people come to my office it doesn't have to be said that you need to polish up a bit. And, still being a new at my job, I also figured I should keep it low-key to be safe. I was a bit dismayed at my outfit, which, while classic,  certainly seemed to lack the flair I've been shooting for here on the interwebs. But at the same time I was comfortable in what I wore, and it's quite like the style I rocked all through high school (where I needed to wear a skirt everyday. It was pretty much jeans-euphoria when I hit college)

Friend Friday: Blog Award Nominations

Ok, this is only from the few blogs I read and/or are aware of. I'm sure there are a ton of other bloggers out there that I have yet to discover!!

1. Creative Juices - most creative
I have to say Ariel at Artfully Aware. I just love how she puts her pieces together and draws her inspiration from art work and introduces her readers to said art. She merges the realms of fashion and art and I love it. And the girl is not afraid of color and pattern! Her passion for art speaks through the passion of her outfits.

Plus, who doesn't feel more cultured after reading her posts? You could totally whip out facts about famous contemporary and classical artists and impress your guests like the classy socialite you are. More champagne anyone?

30 for 30 Day 20: We'll Pretend its Spring Already...

Long time, no see! I've been quite busy with work as well as feeling a bit under the weather recently, so I haven't been able to take many outfit photos. But I did wear this outfit last week when it climbed to 57 degrees here in Chicago! (Never mind that its supposed to snow today, and we've had freezing rain the last 36 hours...)

Friend Friday: Body Image

1. Since you started blogging has your image of yourself changed? A bit, but not too much. What I like about taking photos of myself is being able to stand back and look at what I'm wearing. I can look at my outfits from a 3rd person perspective, and I've been able to figure out what silhouettes truly look best on me, what outfits are not so great looking, and what colors really work against my skin. It helps me going forward to really find the most flattering looks for my body!

2. Are you self-conscious about any aspect of yourself? If so, do you go out of your way to avoid it or do you post it/talk about it anyway? I try not to dwell too much on the things that bother my about my body image, but I have been trying to loose those last few pounds that are remaining from my college years. It would be nice to have a little less muffin top when I slip on my favorite jeans, and feel like I have to find something blousey to wear over that bit of pudge!

I've Caved...

To the lure of Twitter. *shameface*

Apparently this newfangled technology is supposed help me know what kind of cereal Kim Kardashian ate for breakfast, and similar pearls of knowledge. I only hope to be as enthralling. Don't worry, throngs of screaming fans of mine, I'll be sure to alert you to my breakfast choices in the AM. Hellooooo short-hand.

Awkward and Awesome Thursday

-Having to explain that just because I replaced a woman named Jodi, and I was called "the new Jodi," does not mean my name is actually Jodi. It's Sara.
-When the skirt of your dress is too tight, and you bend over to pick something up and hear a rrrrrrrippp.
-Remembering too late on the train that, with spring temperatures and not wearing tights, one should check first to see that they have, indeed, shaved their legs. Whoops.

-Being a part of Ally's Traveling Journal!! Go check it out, and follow the journal's progression. I believe I will be the third person of ten to receive it, and then I pass it along to Ontario!
-Long holiday weekends. I tip my hat to Abe Lincoln, George Washington, and all those other powered-wig-wearing founding fathers of the US. Thanks to you, I can sleep in this coming Monday.
-Temperatures above freezing. The snow is all melting away! I'll take sorta-warm and muddy over frigid and snowy any day.
-Getting compliments on the dress you wore, from both men and women in the office, and told that I was looking "sharp." :)  Even if you did rip the bottom slit a little higher when you bent over to pick something up. Hopefully that's not why I got compliments...

Friend Friday: Color Wars!

Oooo what fun questions! I love playing with color.

1. What color dominates your closet?
It used to be black by a loooong shot, but I've become purple-crazy over the past two years or so. I have an abundance things in purple hues, from lilac to rich, deep, royal purple. I'm definitely a jewel-toned girl.

Awkward and Awesome Thursday!

-Desperately wanting to change your seat on the train because someone with the biggest, loudest, most contagious-sounding hacking cough sat down right behind you... there's no way to do it without it being obvious what you're doing.

-Having to stuff a finger-full of caramel-flavored, potassium supplement-goo down your cat's throat twice a day. Is the caramel flavor supposed to make the throat-stuffing less traumatizing for her?? She's adapting, and knows when I'm coming! I can't catch her now!

-Dressing for -7 weather. I don't care what anyone says, you cannot dress chic and stay warm when its below zero. Everyone just looks like a stuffed animal.

-Air-activated hand warmers. Just shake 'em up and stick them in your pockets for getting to work warmly! They last 10 hours and they're eco-friendly :)

-Homemade guacamole. We can pretend we're on the beach... can you hear the waves?

-Pushing your born-and-raised-LA-native friend into a huge snow drift. That's how we say "hello" in Chicago! Now go eat some deep-dish pizza and put on a Cubs jersey.

-Coming home from work exhausted, but--for once--happy and satisfied!

30 for 30 Day 19: GO RED!

I meant to post this on Friday but haven't had the chance until now! Every Friday in February I'll be wearing red to support the Go Red for Women campaign to raise awareness of heart disease in women.

Awkward and Awesome Thursday (but on Friday!)

-Trying a spin class at my gym, and commenting to the teacher how much it made my butt hurt from the seat last time (I'm pretty sure I had matching bruises between my butt cheeks, ouch!). She responds, "Don't worry, you'll get used to it after a while. Either that, or you'll just kill all the nerve endings there." O_o

-Posting my first Awkward and Awesome Thursdays contribution on Friday. Fail.

-Polishing off an entire bag of cookies by yourself.

-Snow days! Thanks Snowmageddon, I got to work from home in my PJ's for two days :)

-The glorious, wonderful sun coming out after a month of clouds and the blizzard of 2011: soak it up!!

-Polishing off an entire bag of cookies by yourself. ;)

Snomageddon Chic 2011

That's hawt.

What's a freakish, record-breaking snowstorm without some blogging? With my office, my county (in a civil state of emergency, thank you very much), and the entire city of Chicago closed, my day included shoveling, shoveling, doing a little work-work, and shoveling. Let's examine the wardrobe of a truly chic human snow blower:
