Sunsets at Frost Point

This is my absolute, most favorite, winter outerwear look. I got the red coat on ridiculous sale at J. Crew years ago (before I worked there), and then the colbalt gloves practically sang to me two years ago, also at J. Crew. And I love to put it together with a snowy, understated scarf. With so many inches of snow I had to throw this on and get a couple of pictures in before the sun went down.

30 for 30 Day 12: Let's play dress up!

Hello everyone! I hope you all had a really amazing holiday (Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanza, Winter Solstice and/or Boxing Day included)! I've spent a blissful three days eating, loafing, presenting and holidaying it up in my house with my family and friends. Shockingly, I was also able to fit in some photo time, and asked my best friend who was home for the holidays for her suggestions. She helped me put together this outfit for my 30 for 30.

Does the taste of snow remind anyone else of their childhood?

It's too cold without a jacket!!

Jacket: Premise
Tunic: Velvet, at TJ Maxx
Skinny jeans: J. Crew
Sash/scarf: J. Crew
Long pearls: (stolen from mom's closet...)
Boots: Hunter (not part of my 30, but good lord, we got 10 inches of snow last night!)

And now my fabulous best friend, Katie!! Wouldn't you just die for her mirror-shard belt?? She got it Macy's, but I forgot to ask where the rest of her fabulous outfit is from...

Tell us what you think!

Things I *Love/Crave/Need!*

Like, really really need, not just merely crave (much in the way any girl out there really needs another pair of pretty, pretty shoes...).

Red shoes!

I had an epiphany the other day: How do I not own red shoes?? What is wrong with me! I feel like I'm breaking one of the cardinal sins of womanhood and the gods of fashion are going to strike me down and smite me as I type this...Regardless, I've been craving a pair of candy apple red pumps for quite a while, but I have yet to pull the trigger.

Rock & Republic "Celena", Zappos.com

Promiscuous "Genoa11", Zappos.com
Best holiday option!

Sigerson Morrison "1013", Zappos.com

Betsey Johnson "Inoue", Zappos.com

Type Z "Harlow", Zappos.com

Cole Hann Air "Violet Ornament Bow", Zappos.com
These ones have friggin' paisley embossing! *droool*

Let me know which shoes are your guys' favorites! I realize most of these are suede, and thus not very practical for trumping to work in the winter slush, but who ever said anything about these being work-shoes anyway? Hmm, maybe I should start by looking at some practical red flats instead...

...naaaaah.

On a side note, is anyone else obsessed with Zappos? Free shipping both ways--say what?! And I know that it's possible to sometimes find the same shoes Zappos offers on other websites for less, but then when you add shipping it usually ends up being about the same amount. I'll always look around for the best deal, but a lot of the times I'll end up swinging back to Zappos for the same price.

30 for 30 Day 11: A little bit of country...

What's this?

Is Sara updating??

...

It's a Christmas miracle! (cue the choir!)

Not really. But I have finished all my classes (yay!) and all my part time jobs (yay!!), so I'm hopefully back in the saddle now for updates and blogging on a semi-regularly basis. I'd like to update at least twice a week. Maybe I will make that my new years resolution.

So, I really struggled with this outfit. I did my makeup first, and tried a new foundation that ended up being really dry and chalky when it dried, and I feel like it made my face look a little dead and devoid of color or life. Bah. And then I first tried wearing the red shirt under my dress, but it sorta ended up looking like I was wearing a jumper from 1st grade/lederhosen. Not to mention it was unexpectedly uncomfortable. So, wearing it on the outside with the front tied in a knot was a last resort, and might be old-school for other people out there, but this is a big change for me. I swear, if you had told me 4 years ago that I would love wearing oxford shirts and men's button-down shirts, I would have laughed in your face. Oh the times, they are a changin'...or at least my style is. But change is the spice of life! Right? Or was it cinnamon...

Since I transfered these photos onto my computer and I'm looking more at this outfit, I'm liking it more and more. Its not what I originally intended, but its definitely growing on me. Its a little western-y with the plaid shirt, but the tweed jacket and buckled flat boots make it seem kind of sharp and equestrian. But I still feel girly with the jersey bubble dress and lacey patterned tights. I think I like it!

What do you guys think?

Dress: Walter, from Loehmann's
Shirt: J. Crew men's shirt

Blazer: Premise

30 for 30 Day 10: Red, White, Black, and Blue

This is pretty much my most favorite look so far in the 30 for 30. Especially with my cross-body saddle bag, I felt very much like a British schoolboy. You know, 'cuz they wear bright tights and short skirts so often over there in the UK...

I also minimized the accessories and went for some bright red lips! And I got these tights the same day that I got my two-toned purple ones at TJ Maxx. I can't decide which tights are my favorite...So much fun!

Plaid shirt: J. Crew, men's dept.
Sweater: Banana Republic
Skirt: J. Crew
Tights: Rue, at TJ Maxx
Booties: J. Crew
Lips: Maybelline's ColorSensational lipstain in 65 Cranberry Crush (by stain they mean stain--I had to practically scrub my lips off to get the color off before bed!), and L'Oreal Color Riche lipstick in # 315 True Red on top of that. Perfect shade of red!!

What's your favorite makeup to wear for special occasions??

30 for 30 Day 9: Pearls and Purple People Feet-er

I love these tights I got a TJ Maxx! They're two-toned with darker purple on the back of the legs. I decided to go for broke and throw on my purple shoes too.

I surprised myself with how much fun taking these photos was. And I couldn't narrow down my photo choice so I'm indulging myself and posting a bunch. I also love my vintage magnifying glass necklace that I got at a flea market this summer. I'll catch myself using it to make things bigger when I'm perfectly capable of reading them without glasses... my inner Sherlock Holmes makes me do it. You can find some really cool ones on eBay too!

I thought the gold magnifying glass would look good with pearls and more gold chain. It plays off the gold buckle/zippers of this skirt. :) What is your quirkiest, most unique piece of jewelry?

*Dork*

The more shiny, sparkly things, the better.

30x30 Day 8: Bright and brighter!

First off, thanks to everyone for the advice after my last post. I think my gut feeling was correct, and I should not go out of the house with those socks and that particular outfit. Thank goodness I didn't, and ripped them off right before leaving for work. How mortifying to leave the house looking like a yodeler from the knees down. ;)

This is my next outfit in my 30 for 30. I wanted something very colorful and bright because it was freezing this past week. And I like how chunky and rhinestone-y the headband it. This outfit was super comfy!

I love this vivid shade: it's so blue. It's by Velvet and was only $15 at TJ Maxx!

This badass ring is from Forever 21. Holler.
